Adventures in Potty Training Part Deux:The End

As I sit here wondering what I'm going to write about this week, my muse screams through the monitor, "POTTY POTTY MORE. POTTY POTTY MOOOOOORE!!! WAAAHHHH"

Potty training has gone amazingly well. I really can't complain about much. We only put Squirt into diapers during nap time and overnight. He wakes up wet but not soaked through like he used to so even that is getting better. He wears underwear around the house, and Pullups when we are in public(and he has NEVER had an accident in them). He even poops without problem, and for anyone who's ever potty trained you know what a big deal that is for these poor kids. Number 1 was at least 3 1/2 before he was completely trained. Squirt has only just turned 2 in April.

Now we have to work on stamina. He goes pretty long in the morning but in the afternoon we're in the bathroom every 10-15 minutes. You can really tell when he's gotta go poop. We make multiple unproductive trips. It's like going on a road trip with older people. Instead of driving straight to the destination, they make multiple stops mostly to go to the bathroom so kinda counterproductive to the story getting themselves there slowly. He goes to the potty, works for a while, leaves, goes and works for a while, and leaves, goes back and finally takes care of business. I need to get him past that it really cuts into my internet time.

He's also learning how to cry wolf. As soon as we lay him down for either his afternoon nap or at bedtime he starts crying "potty potty more". We know that he just went so what could he need to do. We've finally just left him in bed shouting it. When we took him he'd just sit there and smile because he knew he was putting one over on us. Not anymore...though...

He now wakes up after sleeping a bit and hollers yet again "potty potty more", though this time we can tell he's just woke up, he has that hazy where the hell am I sound in his voice. The saddest part is when he actually gets out of bed and tries to find the door(which he can't open due to safety doorknob covers). How can we ignore that...so we get up and take him, and God bless him, he's usually still dry and usually goes...however, we put him back down and get the cry wolf treatment again...sigh

I don't know about you, but I'm calling this a success. Oh, and Mom and Dad, take note. Don't let him pull one over on you next week :)

If you have the time head in over to dad-blogs and check out what all the other awesome folks have to say on this Fatherhood Friday.

Man oh Man, I know that manipulation well...Bella does the same, usually at night now...Gotta Go Potty Daddy., then sits, for what seem an eternity...before I have to finally drag her back to bed LOL....Kudos!

yikes BellaDaddy, you must have been reading that as I was typing LOL. I feel your pain man, just know, you're not alone.

Well done!

That is great that you got him through both stages at once. We have got peeing cracked - now with next to zero accidents - but pooping is a whole different ball game!

For those who are fans of manipulation - our son likes to cry wolf when there is only one of us about and his baby brother is just settling into a bottle!

Evil genius!

Congrats on this, sounds like it is going very well. I have one more to potty train and I am hoping it is as easy as my other 2 were. Happy Friday!

Wow...sounds like it is pretty successful to me.
I love the manipulation tactics during bed time.
I'm going to start my son on potty training as soon as he reaches 2 or 2 1/2. I hope I am as good as you are at it.

This stuff is really helpful as I think we're about to undertake this journey with our oldest son.

He's still a little young by most modern standards (17 months) but he is already really interested in the potty and seems to be aware (and able to inform us) of his urges.

Glad it's going well for you, and don't feel too bad about getting the "wolf treatment" it seems that sneakiness is the thing kids are best at.

My son is seven and we still play the "poop...no poop" game. I especially like it when we're out in public and says he has to go. We go through the whole public restroom/papering the seat thing, then he sits for a minute and says, "Actually, I don't need to go." Fun!

@Smallprint- Thanks! Yeah, I was settling in for a long battle with the poop but he totally surprised us! You can't possibly expect him to cry wolf at an opportune moment can you ?? ;)

@Rob- Thanks man! Best of luck with your final one! Here's hoping it's as easy as you others!!

@M2D- You'll be fine. Don't stress it. You know where to reach me when you start freaking out over it :)

@Joel- I wish we had kept working on it when our son showed interest at 15 months...he actually went a few times and we just kinda let it slide.

@Momo- Our 7 year old still does that too! I just look at him if we're in public like "are you serious???"

I'm a few years away from potty training, but how do you know he's crying wolf? If it were me, I'd pee all over myself/bed just to keep you on your toes. That sounded less weird in my head.
