I don't know what to say

Seriously, I've been trying to think all day about what to write. I've had a great week. I was depressed last week so this week has been awesome. But there was one down point, and it came about 10 hours later than it should have.

Squirt woke up crying about 3 times Monday night. This is rare because he sleeps like a champ.

He fell out of bed around 9:00 that night and I went up ans calmed him and put him back down. He was up at 12:30, 3:00, and 5:00. Which meant I was up as well(otherwise how else would I know what time it was???)

When he woke up and I went to get him on Tuesday morning, I saw the error of my ways.

My son looks like the Phantom of the Opera. I guess if I would have turned the lights on when I put him back in bed after falling, I would have noticed the nasty rug burn on his nose and upper lip(and I noticed later, on his forehead).

As my brother in law pointed out, father of the year I am not

Happy Fatherhood Friday! Check out what's going on over at Dad-Blogs on this fine Friday.

I hope Squirt is feeling better, I think I would have done the same thing. I do everything I can to not turn the lights on when attending to the child at night.

At night I always tiptoed around in near darkness when the girls were babies. For that matter I still do. I wouldn't have noticed anything amiss until the morning either. I think most parents of smaller children would leave the lights out because they don't want to wake the child further. So, you weren't being a bad parent, you were just being a parent.
And BIL IS father of the year?
I do hope Squirt is feeling better and you, too.

Thanks gang. Yeah he's feeling better, the scabs are starting to fall off(ugh, dad guilt sucks lol)

@PJ & Surprisedmom- yeah, I keep it as dark as possible as well. I got a look from the missus this morning when I asked her to tiptoe down the stairs instead of her normal running. It always seems that he starts to stir after she heads down in the morning(me, I always tiptoe and walk on eggshells because I get more done in the morning when he's sleeping)

@Andrew's Daddies- yeah, I am so the straight dad in your video lol. Pick him up, brush him off, tell him he's fine and leave LOL

That does suck. It's so hard to look for stuff in the middle of the night. I would not have noticed either. If we turn on a light in the middle of the night my kids day/night clocks reset and they don't go back to sleep very well at all. So- don't be too hard on yourself- it' just one of those things. Glad overall things are going better -Jason

No parent in their right mind would turn on the light unless the feel of warm, wet, sticky blood was about.

Hey, we're banging up Bea inadvertently every day as she learns to walk. It happens. Falling down is a life-long rite of passage.

Hey there Natalee! Thanks for the kind words. Squirt's scabs have already fallen off and he's looking much more like his usual self :)

Dude, when I have to wake up to console a waking kid, my eyes are not even open. I have no idea what time it is; I walk in a semi-conscious state trying my best not to bump into the walls.

I got completely chewed out by a nurse in my peds office because Little Man had an allergic reaction to some rug powder I used in his room. When he woke up in the middle of the night, I just had the hall light on. I gave him some Benadryl when he said he was itchy and put him back to sleep. When I got up a couple hours later, I turned on the light in his room and noticed he was hives head to toe. I turn on the lights now. But I still prowl the house at night in the dark checking on the kids, even the teenagers.
