I just don't understand most women...(duck and cover)

Yeah, I'm already in danger and you've only read the title LOL.

As a guy you always hear, never buy your wife (insert any cleaning/cooking/any other household item here) for (insert any holiday/special occasion here). No matter how badly they need it, never buy it as a gift.

Are you freaking kidding me?!?

As most who read this blog know, I'm the homemaker in our household. I'm the maid, cook, chauffeur, handyman, gardener, spider killer, and butt wiper(except on the weekends, I pass off butts on the weekends :D). All that I wanted for our anniversary was a ScumBuster and a new vacuum.

I can't fathom why you women don't want something that will make your life wicked easier instead of flowers that'll just die in a week. Maybe it's just a guy thing where we love new gadgets, but for me, I love an easier life(I also love flowers, as long as I can plant them in the garden and they don't die within a week).

And for the record, I got my wife an i-pod and video game... I passed on the flowers this year, but I'm usually really good about that as well.

Don't hate me, it's an honest question. I'm all for romantic(and trust me, I got plenty of romantic), but I'm also for making my life easier. Why wouldn't you want the same?

It's Fatherhood Friday over at Dad Blogs. Head on over and show them some love :)

Hear, Hear!

I got a new soup pot and a really nice kitchen knife from my wife, and I love them.

I bought my wife a Dyson vacuum and a Kitchen Aid and she's loved them both. Thankfully she wasn't one of "those wives" who took offense to it. It really doesn't make sense to take offense. I mean, if I got a riding lawn mower or a magic timeturner, I wouldn't take offense.

I wouldn't take offense to that, ESPECIALLY if I had been mentioning that we need such-and-such.

I always preferred functional gifts than to flowers or whatever.

Buy me something Jason, I promise to be appreciative. :D

You hit the nail on the head with the guy/gadget thing. My hubby could get me the $300 mixer that I want as a gift, because #1 I would never splurge for it myself. #2 I love to bake and would enjoy using it. Buying me a vacuum as a gift for any occasion would be tantamount to you boss buying you printer paper in lieu of a yearly bonus. Appliances, for the most part, are necessary tools of the trade. Not something extra special for my enjoyment.

@Gunfighter- I know. Totally awesome gifts!

@JonnyTam13- I got a Dyson too and it's freaking great. Lighter than the old one that was only running at half capacity and had a broken brush...

@Melisa with one S- Thank you. I knew there were reasonable women out there lol(running for cover)

@Andrew's Daddies- You're too funny, do I look like I'm made of money lol. I'm the homemaker remember :P

@WeaselMomma- If I had no paper and had to print on my skin I'd be thrilled if my boss gave me paper(those pentips get kind of sharp). I'd rather have an appliance that made my day easier than an achey back due to unneccesary labor. I'd rather get a massage for the hell of it than because I was actually sore ;)

And for the record, my wife is NOT one of those women. Though she does roll her eyes when I ask for things like this because she doesn't think they are much fun...

If we have to follow that rule why do guys regularly get socks and underwear as gifts. My wife is a great gift giver. I don't get those things from her but I have seen some men open those treasures.

@Otter Thomas- The way I burn through socks they'd be an awesome gift. Underwear on the otherhand, not so much lol.

Completely agree. My wife and I mix it up with pretty spangles and gadgets and functional household gifts. Keeps the sex hot. Really.

Dude, I feel you. One of the finest gifts I ever received was a Dyson about a year ago for Christmas. Saved my life...true story!

I'm with yah. My wife let me get a carpet shampoo machine about 4 years ago- and I still love to use it. Mostly A) because I am the only one who clean/vacuums our floors and B) it is a gadget/tool. WeaselMamma put it in perspective for me, because I never thought of it that way. I think you got it when you said that guys are typically gadgetty kinda people, and a cool toaster would be tops with us. -Jason

Fortunately not only is my wife uber-practical, but she actually gets all excited about new gadgets and appliances (not that kind of excited you sick bastards). Although I haven't quite sprung for the KitchenAid Mixer so she would be jealous of @WeaselMomma. Maybe someday when we are stupid rich, she will be the kind of girl who gets pissed when I don't buy her frilly stuff. "No honey, I wanted the 40 foot sailboat. What the hell are we supposed to so with a little 30 footer?"

As guys we are programmed to love gadgets. I would be happy with a cool appliance, but it would have to be a cool one. Like a 3/4HP meat grinder (which I did buy as a gift to myself). I wouldn't want a toaster. But a Dyson Ball or a turbo charged Kitchen Aid mixer, now that would be sweet.

@KWG- Now I'm curious as to where you shop for your "spangles and gadgets"

@Colorado Dad- So true...

@Devoted Dad- I know, it sucks, but I get it...

@Unhawthorned- LOL, my wife's like that too. I consider myself lucky.

@PJ Mullen- The Dyson balls have smaller dirt canisters than the other models. I went with the DC-14, same vacuum, just no ball and larger canister(you can buy the animal style attachments for cheaper than the difference in vacuum costs)

Never happier than when I got a Bug Zapper/Vacuum :-)

Kudos!

Dude. I'm all for making life easier but exactly how much scum is there in your house?
