They don't call them classics for nothing

It's that time of week again. Once you're done here do yourself a favor and head over to dadblogs.com(just click the linky, badgey thing on the right over there) to read some other great stories by some really talented and funny people.

Yesterday, after my oldest came home from school and got done browsing through all of his new Scholastic books(remember those, man, that really takes me back), he asked if we could play a board game. It was close to dinner time so I told him that was fine as long as it wasn't a long one(since his first choice was Monopoly, I figured I was screwed) What he came back with was a total surprise to me as I haven't seen it in years(at least since he was younger).

It was AWESOME! His younger brother was able to play as well and the 3 of us had a great time. It was the first time that the youngest was able to play a game without eating half of the pieces. A few times a marble almost made it into his mouth but it only took one look and it went straight back onto the board.

Our next choice...still a bit advanced...

I LOVE Hungry Hungry Hippoes!

Our fave, now that our kids are 14 and 16, is Risk. But it takes FOREVER.

@Rob, you should try Electronic banking Monopoly, it really speeds up the game and makes it easier for the younger players.

@Melisa, I always enjoyed Trivial Pursuit, can't wait for the boys to be old enough for that.

@Andrew's Daddies, it was so much fun! It's been so long since I've played it but watching the youngest get into it was really cool.

@Otter Thomas, darn tootin'. Just wait, you'll be playing it before you know it ;)

@Bella Daddy, you should! She's the perfect age for it. You guy's will have SOOO much fun

I'm still stuck on the Scholastic catalog. I loved getting those and couldn't wait to order new books.

I miss Scholastic so much. I used to read the catalog and pine over all the books I wanted.

Mmm... Hippos. I miss that game. And Lincoln Logs!

Scholastic books! I totally forgot about that. We didn't have much money growing up so we never got scholastic books, but that doesn't mean I didn't covet the catalog. :)

Now I really want to go play Hungry Hungry Hippos.

How cute. We don't play these games in my house yet. Mainly because both the 15 & 12 year olds still try to eat the pieces.

Hippos ftw! But wait till they graduate to Mouse Trap. Best game ever.
